These 7 Elements Will Help You Master Weight Loss

It can be done.

People can become a healthy weight for life.

Not up and down, but actually staying within a range of 5 lbs for life.

According to best selling author Anne M. Fletcher, studies show that the Weight Loss Masters have strikingly common threads in how they found success.

1ne: To lose weight once and for all, the masters accepted that no one could do it for them. They realized that they must lose weight for themselves-not for spouses, parents or anyone else. However, although they assumed ultimate responsibility for their weight, the masters know when to seek support from others-whether from friends, family, groups or professionals.

2wo: The masters give themselves permission to be imperfect. That is, they accept themselves-bodily flaws and all, many at a higher weight than the so called “ideal.” They allow themselves treat foods that others view as “forbidden.” As part of the process, they talk to themselves positively, pick themselves up when they fall short of their goals and focus on triumphs rather than on shortcomings.

3hree: The masters have changed their attitudes about weight control. They’ve stopped viewing strategies to lose weight as separate from those used to maintain weight. For example, the vast majority make exercise a way of life but not in a fanatic manner. And most adopt, and enjoy, new healthier eating habits.

4our: The masters view what they do to control their weight a lifelong change. They accept that they cannot return to their old ways, but neither regret their choices nor feel sorry for themselves. They understand that weight maintenance takes effort and determination. Yet the masters make it clear that any hardships associated with maintenance are far less troublesome that the difficulties endured when they were overweight.

5ive: The masters immediately deal with small weight gains before the extra pounds seem insurmountable. They set upper weight limits that trigger action until they reestablish a comfortable weight.

6ix: The masters stop using food as a shield from problems and learn to handle life’s ups and downs more effectively. They develop confidence in themselves – either before they lose weight or as they’re losing- and they extend that confidence to other areas of their lives so they can be proud of more than just being thinner.

7even: The masters believe in themselves. Somewhere along the way, they started to have faith in their own ability to conquer their weight problems. They stopped seeing themselves as failures who had repeatedly lost and regained and began to view themselves as people who could take control and be successful.

So there you have it, the 7 most common threads of weight loss masters.

    love this! I’m printing out the 7 tips from masters to leave in my kitchen and at my computer… it is so true – having practiced and yo-yo’ed for years… just maybe it’s my turn to focus on mastery.
